I saw a National Geographic special on Germany's youth and alcoholism. It was eye-opening. But it must be considered too that alcoholism is a world-wide problem too. People are stressed and in hard times, and want to drink to forget their worries and feel good for a while . Teens often do it to fit in with peers and get out of control. As a nurse, I have seen first hand alcohol poisoning and the long term effects of liver damage, colon and stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, gout, hypertension, and "beer belly" visceral body fat that leads to heart disease and CAD/CHF.
